IN-PERSON: The Power in Your Hands: Book Talk, Practice, Q&A + Signing with Shannon Algeo

  • 12401 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 101 Los Angeles, CA, 90025 (map)

This a celebration for Shannon Algeo's new book, “The Power in Your Hands.”

Who will you become when you put down your phone and pick up your life?

The average smartphone user spends 61 to 80 days each year on their device. But we aren't just physically attached to our phones — we're emotionally attached as well.

New attachment research reveals how individuals with anxious or avoidant attachment styles are more likely to develop a compulsive relationship with their smartphone. But all of us — regardless of our attachment style — are turning to our phones as our default coping mechanism for stress, boredom, and overwhelm. This numbs our empathy, diminishes the quality of our relationships, and drains the part of our brain required for creative focus.

Within each of us, there is poetry yet to be written, music yet to be played, loved ones yet to be held. When we get curious about the grief of our "unlived life," we can redirect our attention toward what matters most and reclaim the spaciousness our recent ancestors knew well.

The Power in Your Hands offers a practical and therapeutic roadmap to reclaim our presence, creativity, and aliveness through "rituals of remembering" — practices rooted in psychological research and somatic wisdom.

The afternoon will include:

  • Reading from the book (with a special guest)

  • Guided meditation practice to reconnect with your body's wisdom

  • Q&A

  • Book signing
